One week after we got back from the States we started to meet this small community we would like to work with. Tali pont (Meeting Point) is a church of about twenty people.
I met one-on-one with every core group member. Though exhausting, it was a very exciting experience. Except the church, I can’t think of any other group of people who are so diverse (in every possible way) and still stick together and enjoy one another’s company. These conversation were helpful because I had an opportunity to listen and learn what are the fundamental values of the comunity, what are the main struggles, and what are the stories that shape the thinking of the group. I was also able to communicate my vision in a personal way.
It’s like dating. I can’t think of any other metaphor. It is so exciting, but there is a lot of tension and anxiety on both parts. You want to be yourself, but in the best possible way. Even if you are a perfect match, you can’t spare some nervous/awkward/dumb moments in the process of getting to know each other. So it seems the same to me with this church. Even if it’s God’s plan for us to be together (for me to be their pastor), we still need to figure out how this is gonna work. In other words we need to fall in love in one another in order the dream a future together…
